OneScape is a dance collective Heather co-founded with Leah Misano and Caroline Jewell at the start of 2021. The collective was designed to be a space for creators of all mediums to share in collaboration and creation. Utilizing a lateral power structure, each member of the collective had the ability to step into multiple roles including teaching, movement, creation, and direction. 

 

Heather stood at the OneScape Collective Coordinator while it was in operation. Her responsibilities included the overseeing of OneScape's day to day activities as well as managing the collective's long term projects and goals.

OneScape Mission Statement

OneScape is a collective of movement artists that changes the way dance groups and companies are traditionally run.  It rejects the ideas that dance companies should be run by solely one person, featuring one individual’s choreography, and sharing one perspective.  Instead, OneScape operates with a hive-mind mentality, featuring a diverse group of choreographers and dancers, with the intent to create a safe and accessible space for training, creation, and performance.  The responsibility of decision making, both in creative and logistical situations, will be shared by members of the collective.  Thus guiding us to make well-informed decisions and produce more meaningful and diverse work. We are boston based, dancer driven, and collectively created.

 We believe in the power of community, and wouldn't be anywhere without ours. We strive to offer classes, programs, and other activities to our Boston family. In performance, we want our work and what we share with the community to be representative and accessible.  We aim to give an artistic voice to those who don’t have one, to share individual’s experiences with others, and to show how different ideas can come together to create new and beautiful relationships.

t OneScape, we share the responsibility of running the collective so that creation and community remain our top priority. We're a collective for dancers, run by dancers. We want this platform to be about dancers taking on every role whether it be administrative, artistic, or communal, where it would ordinarily be performance based.
